My brother tried the tractor parts process we use on brass with bad results. It may ruin silver. My understnding is that our deal works by converting red rust to black rust. Something not found on those metals. Let us know if you try it though.

As I hear tell, this process is supposed to work on silver, too. But you ain't gonna catch ME putting momma's best in the electropool (least ways, not 'til I test it on my own silver serving set first, and I don't have one yet)!

I think a bottle of silver polish and some grunt work are in order. Preferably done in a location where momma will notice your contributions.

;o)

Aluminum Foil, Baking Soda, and Salt: Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a pan, add 2-3 inches of water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and bring to a boil.(or just use boiling water from a pot and soak) Add silver pieces, boil 2-3 minutes, making sure the water covers the silver pieces. Remove silver, rinse, dry, and buff with a soft cloth. This method cleans the design and crevices of silver pieces. saw Mister Wizzard do this when I was a kid

Yep, what blitz said,, works like a champ. I have also put a piece of alumin foil in a plastic pan big enough to handle the silerware and stired in the salt and vinegar and just let it soak a bit. Be sure you wash off under running cold water and dry with clean white cloth and put away asap.. And to keep it clean,, seal it in plastic bags wrapped in a sliver polish cloth and don't use it!! :-)

I knew that something like that existed and now that you have brought it up, I think I remember seeing that Mr. Wizard show. Or something like it. They sell stuff on TV now for 9.95 that is basically the same idea just packaged up for someone.
