Best way to add connectors to coil

I did a 12 volt conversion last year on my 53 Jubilee. It has been great. All winter the tractor fired right up with ease.

When I performed the conversion I switched to the NAPA 12V coil (the one always referred to on this forum...don't have the part # handy). It had 2 posts for the low voltage connections. I rigged up a connection which is holding OK. But, is there a special connector I could get to add to the wiring so I can ensure proper contact. I'm worried things could loosen up some time in the future.

I was considering pulling the coil and soldering short wires with bullet type connectors. I would then have the mating connectors on the wires that attach to these.

Let me know of the 'proper' way to do this (if there is one!)

Paul.

Are the posts on the coil threaded, or did they sell you a newer-style coil for Ford applications that has posts with a flat top, and no threads?

If that is what you have, you should be able to get a connector like THIS:

A good solder connection which first is mechanically secure by twisting or winding can't be anything but good, unless it precludes easy parts changing. Rosin core of course not acid.

NAPA has some push on spade connectors for the wire and my NAPA coil came with the spades on the threaded terminals. I just put the female fittings on the wires with crimps and slid the wires on the spade.

Mine has the flat topped terminals, no threads. That connector in the pic looks like exactly what I need. Where did you pull that pic from (i.e., where can I get one of these!).

Thanks,

Paul.

Too bad they didn't sell you the proper coil, with threaded posts, in place of those "Ford has a better idea" terminals!

The one shown is a DORMAN part # 85848. (As you may know DORMAN is a generic parts brand available at lots of auto parts stores.) If you want to order it on the 'net, punch in the part # at RockAuto.com. ($4.13)

Or, scavenge a connector from a 1980's Ford car or pcikup.
