My 9N will not start. It has a 12v system, rebuilt carb, new plugs and points. It is getting fuel, has spark and turns over. Any Ideas?

Tracked the problem down to the engine is getting no fuel. If we shot a little ether into the carb it would try to run. So we have air, compression and spark. Does anyone know how many turns out on the idle adjusting screws?

Hows the compression. Takes 3 thing to make them run. Spark, fuel and compression.

Low compression leads to low vacuum in the intake and little or no gas to the cylinder. Put a 1/4 cup of tranny fluid in each cylinder and let it sit a couple hours and then try to start it. If it fires it will smoke bad for a few minutes but it the rings are stuck the tranny fluid will help with that problem

He has compression, he has spark, when we spray starter fluid in it she starts but it wont with the gas, we dont think it is getting the gas out of the carb, is the carb bad?

Couple thing to try. Pull the drian plug from the bottom of the carb. It should have a good steady flow of gas. If it doesn't the float is probably stuck and the carb need to be rebuilt then

when I had the carb all apart I noticed a little pin that goes up and down with the float, it wasnt coming down when the float. It would stay up and sometimes fall with the float but not all the time, what is that and what do I do, if i need to do anything.

Thats the float needle, if it hangs up like your saying it is thats where your problem is. If it hangs you will not get gas in to the carb. Sounds like you need to buy a carb kit and do a good rebuild of that carb. Or buy a rebuilt carb

man thats a shame, cause we just went to tractor barn and bought one and put it in not long ago. We shall try again and see what happens. This tractor has got me so confused, I will be glad when it is fixed and down the road.

Well if you saw the web site I guess you have my phone number then. It ok to call me or e-mail me either one or both. I always answer and leave my e-mail open and help a good number of people with there tractor problem. I'm retired and playing with/fixing tractors keep me out of trouple and phyical therpy. By the way if he calls and get the answering machine just tell him to say tractor and we will pick up.

Okie dokie on the tractor. Well that is intresting I told my husband you were probably retired and this was your niche. He was thinking of doing something similar with small engines. He was in desert storm and was gonna make a career out of it when he found out he had a brain tumor and now his disability has increased so he was gonna start a hobby of some sort. I think the tractor is a good start. I am just hoping this isnt a long term tractor project, oops to late. What is the latest he should call?

He is 46ish or 47 I'm not sure. He works third shift over at the local plant and has been coming home working on this tractor everyday and it has us both licked. Well, I will have him call. I dont want to get kicked off here for personal talk.

We live in Ava. Not far from Springfield. So, that would be yes, we are from Missouri. Oh, and my husband told me he fixed the problem with the needle and it isnt sticking, he said he had now lost his spark. I say shoot the tractor or give it away. See, he has it sold to a man who keeps asking and coming by for it and we havent exchanged any money or nothing, but he doesnt want to give it to the man and then that guy have any problems with it. So, he is trying to cure the problem so he can send it on down the road and have a good piece of mind about it.Which is all good. So, you got some free time to take a look at a tractor, or what. Ha ha

Can't say I have free time but I do work on tractors for other people off and on. I'm up at the lake of the ozarks, just south of Camdenton. I have a 2N/9N in my shop right now that I'm building from to dead tractors and it should be driveing out in the next day or so. Check out the web site it has pictures of tractors, horses, goats and just plan the farm
