Thanks Dell,
Back to my 2N ignition terminal wiring. I think I've got it now. I'm getting confused by what the old manual shows but that was for a 6 vdc system.

Here's the way it is now:

(Using the "T", I label them left, right & bottom)

BOTTOM TERMINAL POST
-12vdc coming from ammeter
-one side of key switch

LEFT TERMINAL POST
-other side of key switch

RIGHT TERMINAL POST
-lead to coil(this goes thru the original ballast resistor mounted on batt. tray)

QUESTIONS:
1-is the above correct?

2-do I still need the original ballast resistor on batt. tray?

3-If I tie in the alt. lead (there's only 1) to the big batt. stud won't the alt. field draw 12vdc even when turned off?? If so, could it be attached to the right terminal post?

Sorry to keep bugging you; you're always a big help & I appreciate it. Happy Easter.

Gary

I not Dell but I will try to help you. If your coil is still 6V you will need both resistors If your coil is 12V you need Dell's "secrete" resistor" do a search you will find it. Your alternator wire should hook up to the bottom lug on resistor block the other wire from the same lug should hook to amp gauge other wire to one side of the switch other wire of switch should go to resistors then to coil. I tried to draw a digram in paint so I could post it but did'n turn out readable. It should be almost like the stock wiring except the battery is turned around and no cut out alternator wire just goes back to terminal block.
Hope this helps Marty

2N electric in reply to Marty 2N IL, 04-16-2006 07:14:03
Thanks Marty,

Yes my 2N coil is 12vdc. With the exception of "Dell's secret resistors" & the fact that the original ballast resistor is in use, I have it wired the way you mentioned. Dell had managed to straighten me out that far.

I'll remove the old resistor tomorrow. Now, seeing as how I've got an alt. with only 1 lead (which is attached to the bottom terminal post), won't the alt. field continue to draw off the batt. even when turned off??

Thanks again Marty,

Gary

Gary..... ...no, in simplistic terms, the 1-wire 12-volt alternator has a 1-way solid-state anti-drain built-in. It just needs about 1800rpms before it starts charging because of the way it uses residual magnetizm to generate the armature magnetic field..... ..Dell
