Have a lot of wobble in front pulley, it is also bent. Sounds like a lot of noise when tractor starts but does not run a long time. I have read the posts about removing the bolt, but can it be done without removing the front axle? Any tricks would be appreciated. Thanks..

If you use the spun steel pulley you kin use the OEM bolt it you counter bore the center a little for the back taper of the bolt head. no modification needed if used with a 5/8 X 1” fine thread bolt. I use a grade 5 bolt and not the grade 8.

Partee..... ....welp, 14-posts down the page, Jack Nims asked the same question and answered it himself, only he did some research of the archives of this great N-Board at the top of the page.

The reason yer front pulley wobbles, is it is made from 2-pieces of easily bent sheetmetal parts. Modern replacement frontpulley is made from 1-piece billet steel, turned on a lathe. While designed for driving front end loader hydraulic pump shafts, it works quite well as a replacement.

I replaced mine 15yr ago and I don't remember removing the front-axle because you haffta remove the hood first; and I know I didn't remove the hood.

I do remember having to buy a 1-5/16" socket and it was a tight fit. I used a long extension thru the grill crankhole. I did haffta buy a 5/8-18x1" grade-8 bolt and flat washer; 'cuz the crownhead crankbolt has a backside taper that the new pulley don't have and won't fit. I've never missed the ablility to handcrank start the engine.

Tip: stuff some 1/4" soft cotton rope down enny sparkie hole so the crankshaft won't do a complete rotation while you remove and install yer replacement front crankshaft bolt torqued to 150ft/lbs. Simple, eh?..... ....Dell
