My dad broke down and bought a new New Holland
and I was handed the old Ford. I plan on a complete restoration of the family heirloom. started a plan of attack but need some help in determining the exact year serial #is 9N3908 with stars. Also, in looking at all the photos posted here i have not seen a 9N with the air breather above the hood. My N has a hole in the hood but it is missing the breather tube or is their no such thing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's one with the intake above the hood. I borrowed this from the photo gallery on this site. I've seen them with tall stacks like this one and short stacks (less than 1' high). I guess it was dependent on how high the customer wanted it. I suppose it was good for operating in dusty conditions.

Congratulations on your inheritance! The air breather above the hood was a dealer option on the 9n/2n, I've only seen a few actual tractors that had it. Hope this helps, Bob

You lucky dog, it appears you have a 1939 9N tractor - the first year of the N Series tractors. I have been looking for one to fix up for quite some time, but cannot afford the price they command. Take care of that jewel, and get us some pictures!
