I often get in roughground with my 8n and bush hog. If my right front tierod end goes up it often hits my generator and loosens the fanbelt to the point of making the waterpump pump to slow and often overheats. It could be that the fanbelt has stretched but I wonder if anyone else has ever had this problem, and is it maybe a symptom of somthing that needs to be checked on the frontend. The tractor drives good and steers good.

I put a 12v generator on my 8n. The tierod arm would hit it if it swung up to high. I simply moved my axels out one bolt hole. This fixed the tierod generator clearing problem. Moving the axels out one knotch will affect the toe of the front wheels, which can be easly adjusted.

I have had the same trouble with my alternator. Just yesterday I widened the front axle stance by one bolt hole also and now the steering is far enough away from the alternator that it can't interfere because the axle hits the stop first.

8N frontends have "witness marks" on the spindals that match up when in alignment when adjusted by the tie-rods.

And yes, you can extend just one side of you front axle all the way out to max if'n you want too, but it screws the turning. And since it is so eazy to extend both front axles the same amount, why mucka round? Do it right, extend both frontaxles the same amount, it'll steer better..... .Dell
