All the Ns where falt heads, they stopped makeing the 8N in 1952 and in 1953 they came out with a new model of thractor which was the Jubilee which was also there 50th year of makeing tractors

They changed the engine around 1953. The 53 Jubilee I just picked up at an auction has the new style engine and it works great. I found a lot of information on the internet

All 2Ns, 9Ns and, 8Ns had flat heads. Very durable and reliable engines.
