Symptom is quadrant lever will not move freely, has to be pulled up forcefully to lift and will not hold any position. Pump seems fine.

Following the sage advice on this board I’ve pulled the lift cover, My there are a whole lot of slightly corroded parts in there. I’ve brought it home (I have no idea what the TSA thought of my luggage consisting of a large chunk of old tractor but that is their problem) and am now digging in....

3 bit’s of advice requested as I dig in.

1) Are there any bits that should be replaced as a mater of course as I have this thing completely apart. Gaskets obviously but how about lift piston rings, misc. springs and things?

2) It will be great fun getting all the rusted bits apart. Is there any real reason to take the yokes off their shaft and replace the bushings. The FO manual lists that as the last piece off and the first piece on so I could skip the step and avoid the agony of getting those big rusty spines apart.

3) General rust and scale on the inside of the housing. Is it worth cleaning this up and if so what method is preferred.

Again thanks for the advice, I didn’t get much mowing done but I’m sure learning more.....

If you mean yokes as what i belive is the lift arms.I can tell you I just replaced mine on a 48 8n. It took alot of heating and beating to get them off. The bushing really tighten everything good. But im new to tractors and i dont know if its really worth it. Mine wasnt real bad but they had some slop in them so i thought while I had the top off i would go ahead and change them. Be careful not to mess the splines up. Good luck.
