Frozen Choke?

The choke on my 8N is stuck in the open position and I can't budge it by hand. Any suggestions on how to free it up enough to get the screws out of the plate and remove the shaft? I already tried the "moron approach", which was to rotate the lever on the end of the shaft with a pair of pliers. Of course that snapped the lever off the shaft without moving anything else. Once the new lever and shaft arrive (hopefully today) I will attempt to remove the old and replace with the new. Any tips to avoid further embarassment?

just an aside..... .I often wonder about the english language..... .why do so many refer to something that is siezed as being frozen? In order for something to be frozen, does there there not have to be ice or at least freezing temperatures involved?

I believe this comes from the definition "fixed: incapable of being changed or moved or undone". The definition was probably derived from the action of ice formation limiting the movement of objects and then expanded to more general usage over time.

With the carb apart, and dry of gas, heat the area around the choke shaft with a propane torch, let it cool a bit, and alternate with some spray "loosen juice".

Alan..... ..the damage has already been done. I'd hacksaw the choke apart inside the mouth of the carb..... ....Dell

Thanks Bob, and Dell. I don't know which would be more fun at this point, the hacksaw or the torch? Maybe I'll try both (not at the same time of course)! Just hope the new parts arrive today (or tomorrow).
