N.L. just touched on something I have been curious about for quite awhile and have been wanting to ask about. What is the purpose or function of those two holes underneath that have the cotter pins sticking out of them????

Richard..... ..them jingle-jangle cotter-keys are Ford's hi-tech solution to keeping the tranny drain holes free from oily dirt cloggs.

In the hard-scrabble farming days of long-ago, weed control in row-crops was accomplished by pulling specialized "shovels" thru the drying dusty soil, up-rooting the weeds and creating a dust cloud and the dust would collect on oily surfaces and clogg drain holes. But driving a tractor sure beat hand-hoes. Now days, they use weed-spray..... ..Dell
