On the 8N the gear and hydraulic oil is the same.
The trans, hydraulics and rear end share the same sump. You can use the original spec 90wt GL1 mineral oil or the newer M2C134D oil recommended by Ford-New Holland. The M2C134D is thinner and works better in cold weather but will leak out your axle and trans seals faster.
Takes about 4 1/2 gallons depending on how much sludge is in your sump.

My 600 with a vane pump loses lift power when the 134 oil heats up.Hyd people tell me to switch to 40 weight transmisson lube in the hyd system. The 600 runs seperate systems.I can lift a 12 foot 20 inch dia, log on a carry all at 35 deg. 4 bales of hay wont lift on a hot day.The 134 thins badly when hot.I use 90 in the rear axle.Ring and pinion gears are too costly to replace. The 9n uses the same parts as a Ford ton and a half truck in the dif.Who would use this thin 134 in a truck rear end?

Sounds like your pump is nearly worn out. And just because it's "thin" doesn't mean it doesn't have the same or BETTER lubricating properties. Many new HD machines use this type of oil in all of the driveline components including a lot of CAT's big equipment (including final drives).

YMMV,
