On May the seventh, the DDG ARLEIGH BURKE, along with our son Kevin and the rest of its great crew, will be back in the USA at Norfolk, from duty in the Mediterrian. It has been a very trying time for the family, but for him it has been even harder. We are so proud of him and what Kevin and the crew are doing that it is impossibly to put it in words. We just want to see him and get him home for he's 2 week leave. He said he can't wait to smell and touch Jackson, Alabama. We will be leaving May the 5th And get there the 6th to rest and be ready for the ship's arival the 7th. We will be towing his truck home on a dolly so we can get it ready for him to drive back. I hope the towing goes as planned.
I hope the picture of Kevin, his mom Sandy (MY Wife looking over my shoulder right now) and our daughter Amanda shows up.

I was on board an AKA in Norfolk myself many years ago and a little known fact back then was that when our ship was in port on the weekend, we had "open house" for anyone who wanted to come aboard and see what a ship was like. Don't know if it's still true, but if I was going to be there on that weekend, I would at least go up to the gangplank and ask the Officer in Charge. You would be amazed..Ron

They still have the open house. We did get the tour 2 yrs ago from Kevin and it is impressive. The bunks are a little small for Kevin's 6'4" + frame but he said you will sleep when you get a chance.

So what ship is that Squid on. Yes I can call him a squid, why because I was a squid back in the late 70s. And what is his rank and DOA I think thats what its called been a long time. But I do have to say hes the uglyest one of the 3 LOL

The squid is on the DDG ARLEIGH BURKE. It is a guided missle destroyer. He's rank is E3, His DOA is a helmsman. As for the ugly the is because I am not in the picture as ya'll can see.
