Went to an auction yesterday. There were two really sorry looking N's. One was a 1945 2N with weak hydraulics, lots of jerry-rigging, and the hood was 80% bondo with the grill missing. The other was a 1948 8N painted a really ugly orange, weak hydraulics, and rotten tires. Sitting next them was a bright, shiny Farmall (Super C?) that looked like it had been prepared to enter in a parade.

The 2N went for $2,500. The 8N went for $2,450. The Farmall went for $1,100.

I'm not saying any of the bidders were real smart, but N's sure have a good reputation!

I am looking for a mechanic's manual for a 1948 farmall tractor. We need to get the old girl running again. Thanks everybody.

I would guess that the Farmall C did not have a 3 point category 1 hitch. Without that, its use is pretty much restricted as far as off-the-shelf implements go. Also, I think Ford parts are more readily available.

The Farmall C and Super C can be equiped with the Fast Hitch and adapter kit to give you cat.1 implement use. On the Super C you've got live hydraulics. Many parts, including original OEM gauges and sleeve assemblies, can be bought at CaseIH (CNH now). One can restore a Farmall to the correct specs without too much trouble. I own a Super C and a completely resored 9N, proud to have them.

Amen! I've got a restored 2N and a late Super C with a Central Tractor 3 pt. hitch kit. I also have some original 2 pt. IHC implements. I truly like them both and they both have their own distinct uses and enjoyments. Availability of parts and ease of working on them is a wash--- I know that this is an "N" forum but let's don't get tunnel vision guys-Farmall made a lot of good machines too.

Now boys, don't get in a lather. Next thing you know it becomes a spittin contest.
Like alot of you, I go to the shows, and I'm always amazed how dang prideful grown men become about their machines. Apart from pride being among the seven deadly sins, it's poison to the vintage tractor hobby. Best to realize that all tractors, like people, have their good and bad points. You should appreciate that a green ( or red or orange or whatever) machine is important in it's own right for what it means to the owner and what it brings to the hobby. I have an old Ford. I have an old Farmall. Got a JD and a Cockshutt in the family.Have loved and hated each one on any given day.But never to the point that I'd spit in some fella's eye about 'em. Now git on back to work.

Could have been collectors and/or people who didn't understand. The Super C is a fine tractor and if it had "Fast Hitch" and "Touch Control" hydraulics is more tractor than any of the N's. Farmalls were quality tractors too, with a legend behind them.
