8n is leaking around the PTO shaft. Have bought new replacement seal. According to my books, there is a shrink sleeve that must be removed and replaced in order to install a new seal. Is this correct, or is there an easier way?

If this is your $900 52 8N, you're killing me! It works well enough that you can worry about a PTO seal?

Rick, in addition to the other post, park your 8N in a steep ditch with the rear wheels up high...that way you do not have to drain the oil in the rear end.

Yes, the stuff will all come off the other end. If I rememeber right you have to remove a snap ring or two. Look at the diagram in the manual, it shows them.

Much easier than shrink sleeve!

Thanks for your advice about the PTO seal. The 8n that's leaking is my '49 8n that the neighbor owned for about 40 years. The '52 8n probably won't have anything done to it for a while, but I am sure that I will have plenty of questions. Thanks again.

Rick,

I was a little envious of your new N until I just read a post above by James Frank. He wants to know if $500.00 is to much for a 52 and a brush hog?

What flea market? I try to watch all the roads in NE Kansas. Sounds like you did well even if you had to give such an exorbitant price.

:-) (o: LOL

P.S. I'm near Perry Lake

Sparks, KS and White Cloud, KS have their annual flea markets on the same week-end. I go to Sparks, it's flat. White Cloud is just up the road on goat hills. I'm just west of St. Joseph, MO. I also saw that deal on the $500 tractor, now that's a bargain!
