Any suggestions short of splitting the tractor for a clutch that is stuck engaged? I have tried leaving a weight on the clutch pedal, pulling the tractor in gear, power shifting and driving the tractor for over 30 minutes and I still can't get the clutch to disengage. I guess if I don't get a suggestion, I am stuck splitting the tractor, but here is hoping!

Robert

I tried everything except splitting the tractor and I finally tried a ridiculous solution suggested by my nephew, running into a tree with the clutch pedal down. Guess what,it worked. I was going slow in second gear.

Here's another thread on the subject. Maybe you've already read it.

another trick you can try, as long as the tractor runs on its own power, get it in a gear , the higher the better, drive it around in circles{as long as you have the room, like a field or pasture} as you are going around hit your brake as to put a drag on it, so going in a left turn hit your right brake and visa versa, most of the time will brake loose,

You said you drove it around but first did you keep the clutch pedel down all the time?? 2nd did you have some sort of load on it that you where pulling?? If you answer no to either one or both of those questions theres part of why it didn't brake free if of course it will on its own. Another thing you can do is remove the starter and then spray carb cleaner of brake cleaner on the clutch with the pedel blocked down. You will have to turn the engine over a littl at a time when spraying it which can be a little hard unless you have a hand crank but it can be done with the fan if the fan belt is tight enough. Don't spray any type of oil on it or you will make things worse.

Yes, I drove with the pedal down. When I pulled the tractor with it in gear, I had the clutch pedal down. I have not pulled the starter yet and tried brake cleaner, but I will try that. The only thing I really haven't tried is hooking up and trying to pull something with the tractor - if the clutch does not release I am afraid I would damage something or break the chain which would not be pretty. I will let you know what I come up with. Thanks for the suggestions.

Robert

It doesn't really take much as far as a load. If you have help hook a car or truck up behind it and pull it around. It just takes some sort of load even climb up hills works well as the load

When you were running the tractor
around (under its own power) you
did have the clutch pedal depressed.

I think before I would split the
tractor I would spray pblast on the
assembly through a inspection port.
What is the worst that could happen,
you would have to split the tractor?
George

I had the same problem with my 1948 8N. An old timer told me to put the tractor in first gear and for me and my wife to get behind the tractor and rock the rear tires back and forth as hard as we could. THAT DID IT and within 2 minutes the clutch popped loose.

Now I put a wooden block down at the clutch to hold it back from the flywheel when I park it for more than a week. Good luck! Keep me posted...I have some other ideas too.... Cal
