Ok, I blame all your guys for today! I read the postings of all the problems you had getting the yard done, the field mowed etc etc. What with dead batteries, flat tires, broke parts etc etc.

So, today I decided I needed to mow the yard before the heavy rains move in and the grass gets out of hand this weekend. So fired off the JD, started cutting to finish bout lunch time. Well, NO!! I hit something with the blades that made a terrible noise. Stopped and looked around to see what it may have been. Remember I have mowed this chunk of Texas for 12 years now and I know every square inch of it.

Anyway, did not see any thing, mower sounded ok, so started back to mowing. did not steer right, felt tight if you know the feeling. Looked at front tires, ok, looked at the back left,, flatter than a durn pancake! grrrr... Mower is only going on it's second year. Limped to the barn and jacked it up. Removed a heavy guage wire like the handle off a paint can from the rear axle! Tired airing up tire, nope, no good. Pulled the tire and has a slit in bout half inch long.. Grrrr,,, What the heck, ate some lunch and headed to the local tire fixer guy that I have know since high school back in the 60s. Said the tire was shot, tubeless and to go get a new tire. Did not want to replace tire, so went to Tractor Supply, only close choice, and they actually had a person that not only knew what he was doing but found the tube for me. So, got a boot on the tubeless tire and put the tube in it and finally got the yard finished bout 4 pm.. Several hours late for me..

Durn,, think I will have a wine cooler and go eat Mexican food at the local school that is having a Cinco De Mayo celebration.

Wonder if they got liquor there? :-)

The battery went south in my Farmall 100 so had to throw a new’un in it. You would think a American made battery would last longer than it did. It wuz a Interstate and installed only in 1992. It got a nutter Interstate bat. I hope this’un will give a little better service.

Wow, 14 years on a battery. That sounds really good to me. How long should a tractor battery last say in the North East? (Winter?)

Dunno, what pi$$'izz me off izz it set for 5 years while I fixed the engine so I lost 5 years of service. Bat, man ask iffin it had water in it, I just chuckled and ask'em does it really matter. If I jumped it off it would crank as long as I used the tractor for that day. It wuz a record for me I have had’em go 10 years but not 14, git ya a Interstate its worth the money. For a Marine bat delco has gave me the best service I have got 7 to 8 years out of’em

3 years is average life for a battery.I have had a few that went 5 years.Auto and tractor batteries have to supply heavy currents to start the engine then they are overcharged by alternators.Compare the weight of a marine and a car battery and you will find theres not as much lead in the car type. The plates are in the form of a grid with lead paste pressed into the grid.most battery failures seem to be happen in hot weather.Batteries have a mfg date sticker on them now.I looked at some new 6v batteries on the rack. All were fresh dated and cost 30.00.I have been buying batteries since 6 to 9 dollars would buy a new one.I have a good laugh when someone complains that their battery is only 9 years old and wont crank the tractor. They are going to convert to 12v to cure this problem.A 12v battery has twice the chance of failing due to a bad cell.
