Does anyone have some helpful hints for turning those four screws out? Thought I'd ask before I start mangling the heads. Since I twisted off the lug bolt last weekend I've been squirting penetrating fluid on them everyonce in awhile. But I don't think they're going to turn with a big screwdriver by hand.

I use a chisel that will fit the slot then install a big adjustable wrench on it and have sumone hit the end of the chisel with a BFH while I hold pressure on the chisel till it werks loose.

South:

I can nearly always remove brake drum screws with an impact driver. In the rare situations where this does not work, I install the largest flat-head screw driver bit that I have onto my impact wrench and remove them this way. This last method has never failed.

The screwheads on my TO-30 brake drums were mangled beyond any hope when I got it.

I welded a 1/2" hex head bolt to the head of the screw and simply backed it out with a wrench while the whole thing was still warm.Worked like a charm.

I replaced them with socket head cap screws and used anti sieze.

Good Luck !

I usually drill them out if they are really stuck. They are unnecessary and were only put on to keep the drums on while on the assembly line I think. All you have to do is drill away the heads, the screw threads are in the hub and all 8N hubs are bad anyway!

If a drum falls on your foot during a tire change you will know what those screws are for.Handling a loaded tire will give you trouble enough.
