48 8N Won't Accelerate

I have a 48 8N that stopped running while we were bush-hogging. It has the 12 volt conversion including new coil. Carb has been gone through, points and timing set. Linkage to governor is correct. It will idle (kinda rough) but when I try to accelerate it will die. If it starts to run up (a little) it will back-pop and sputter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you have good fuel flow, I would bet that you have had the plug wires off and put them back on incorrectly. Double check the firing order and be sure to note the direction of rotation of the rotor to be certain that you have the wires on correctly. If that is OK, double check the gap on the points to be sure that they didn't slip.

RR, be sure you have good spark... weak spark, even though there were parts changed recently, can and will give symptoms as you describe, search the archives here... so many times is is spark related. duey

Well from what you have said you either have a clogged fuel line/filters or you have some junk in the carb again. What deos it do when you choke it. If it keeps running good when choked you have a problem with something in the fuel system clogged. I would pull the carb drain plug and see if you have a good flow. If you do then you have a clogged carb. If you don't then check fuel flow at the line where if hooks to the carb. etc.

I would check your fuel flow to the carb. It sounds like a clogged fuel filter to me.
