Beginer question...

Not sure if that's what it's called, I call it a steering wheel spinner...a nob that bolts the steering wheel to make it easier to turn...

I was 'told' to get one of these...I see no reason for it, if the turn takes that much work I use the brakes, plus sometimes I do some 'not so bright' things and the steering wheel whips around on me and I think that nob would hurt like heck as it hits my hand when the steering wheel comes back around in a flash.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yep, I heard them called suicide knobs, or spinners, when I was a kid. I've had one on my 8-n for 10 years, don't plan on ever taking it off, but you can spin your wheel any way you want to.

I guess I do it a little differently-I keep my hand on my steering wheel spinner almost all the time. This keeps my right hand free to move the 3Pt control up or down, or to look behind. I also wear heavy leather gloves all the time when I'm on my N.

You were "Told" to get one of these? Remind them of the "Bill of Rights". If you do not see the need for one, do not get one... On the other hand, if you think you need one get one...Grin.. I do not need one and therefore do not have one. This is not like a firearm, where it is better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.

Yep - I call 'em neckers knobs. Had one on my '41 for 10 years. As mentioned, they work great on level ground, but not in the rough stuff.

One other bonus is they leave your other hand free for the important stuff, like holding a refreshing beverage!

My thoughts - You need a Kosch steering-aid with a spinner in hand. I spend a lot of time with my right hand on the lift control and my left on the spinner while grading forwards and back. Brent

Hi Sal,

I have had a spinner on my 8N for over 25 years and I like it. It makes turning easier on level smooth ground. But on rough ground I do not use it as it does not allow suficient control of the steeringwheel as it will twist very rapidly sometimes as the wheels hit a rut or rock. That is my experience with the one I have.
