To make a long story short, I have an old Yamaha FZ600 which I ran for about 1 minute before I realized that the crankcase was overfilled with oil. I drained it and now have the proper amount in it, but when I run the engine it smokes like a good thing. What damage have I done?

Since you put the oil to the proper level have you run it long enough to burn off the extra oil that probably got into the cylinders ?? I'm not familiar with the design of that engine but usually with no longer than you ran it there shouldn't be any damage. If it smokes some for a little while that's probably OK. It should burn off the excess oil then quit smoking.
Good Luck, Lee

I'll run her for a while today, hopefully that's all it is.
