I am in the process of replacing brakes and rear oil seals on my 1948 Ford N. I am at the point of having removed the brake drums but cannot get the wheel hubs to budge. I have stripped the threads on an 8" gar puller. Can I unbolt the bearing retainer and slide the axle out? I would then take this assembly to a machine shop and have the wheel hub pressed off.

In case the figure 8's don't work,(they didn't for me) yes you can unbolt the the brake ass'y and slide the axle out. Doing this gave me room to give the hub a good whack with the 3# hammer which broke it loose. Or the machine shop will get it off. Good luck. Steve

Yeah, use Joe's method.
I did the same thing and it worked for me.
Loosen'd the big nut and did some figure 8's.

Put your wheels back on and thread the axle nut back on until it is about 1/8" from down against the hub. Take it out in the back 40 and cut some doughnuts and figure 8's with it. The side load leverage against the hub splines will pop it loose. Piece of cake and no work involved.
