48N starting problem

My 48N fires fairly quickly when I engage the starter, however as soon as I let go of the starter button the motor will die. If I repeat this several times and it will keep running, however on less than all four cylinders. It will take maybe 5-10 seconds for the final cylinder(s) to start firing. At this point the engine runs well and operating the tractor is fine. When the engine has cooled off I go thru the same starting procedure. Any thoughts on what I need to look for?
Thanks in advance.

May want to check for:
1.) Flooding. Do you turn your fuel valve off when you leave your tractor sitting? If not, I"d recommend doing so. If so, then your valve may not be shutting off all the way. May also be the float sticking. Might wanna clean out the carb with some carb/choke cleaner
2.) Moisture in the ignition system. Check the spark plug boots and make sure they"re all down tight so that moisture can not get in. I"d check the coil (you said "48 so you have a front-mount dist. Sometimes the coils caused problems if they"re not sealed and down tight) and distributer cap and wire connections there too.
3.) Try keeping the choke partially out for a bit right after it starts to keep it running.

Hope this helps.
Scott
