Yet another Hydraulic Question

More Hydraulic questions. '49 8N

Per the advice given I have straightened the control arm <8N504>and lined things up per Zane’s jig & instructions. I added the .0625 washer under the draft plunger <8N541B>. All seems OK.

My only question comes in position mode (little lever <8N686> up).

As the quadrant lever moves towards the up position and the lift arms <9N543B> rotate upward everything is fine until the last 2 inches of quadrant lever motion. At this point the cam follower pin (newly replaced) no longer touches the cam because the control arm<8N504>starts pushing on the draft control spring assy <8M539B, 8N691, 8N692> rather than the position spring assy <8n6683>

My assumption would be that the lift would be under position control until you hit this critical point and then the lift would raise all the way to the top. The inlet valve would never close so you would always have pump pressure holding the lift arms all the way up.

Q1. Is it supposed to work this way (i.e. am I being overly fussy)

Q2 If not, any clues as to solution.

Thanks as always.

I'm not a guru, but have you tried loosening the 4 bolts that mount the quadrant to the lift cover and sliding the quadrant forward or back and watching your pin? Normally this minor adjustment is done with the lift cover back on the tractor as a tweak to get full range of the touch control throughout the quadrant. Para. 151 in the FO-4 manual. Good luck.
