lift arms not raising up all the way

I have a 51 8N I just bought. I had been discing for about an hour, the lift was working ok until I changed the disc to a bottom plow. It started jumping and will not raise all the way. I flipped the control lever down and then back up and it raised, but then would not lower. Moved the control lever down and the lift will not do anything, so put back in the up position. The lift will raise and lower know but is still not raising all the way up.

I checked the fuild level and it was full but the fuild was milky looking. So I changed the fuild with 90W minerial oil. It seems to be a little smoother but still will not raise all the way up.

I was hoping someone would have some input to what might be the problem. This is a great forum and seems to have a lot of knowledgable answers to questions.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Anthony

Tony..... ..remember, yer 8N has a little handle under yer right knee (and it ain't a "flush" handle) its a hydraulic selector for position/draft control. Up/vertical for position control, like mowing and discing. Horizontal/foward for draft control, like plowing. 2N/9N's only have hydraulic draft control. Hydraulic draft is a scheme where it automatically lifts (just a little-bitt) the plow when runs into ruff ground to reduce the draft (drag) of the plow and subsequent horsepower requirement for plowing.

tip: most beginning ploughmen don't plow fast enuff; about 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear = 4-mph. It takes speed for the moldboard to turn the soil slice and bury the surface trash for decomposting..... ...Dell

Anthony, the lift quadrant or handle assembly you move up and down to raise the lift is attached to the lift top cover with 4 7/16" bolts. The quadrant assembly where these 4 bolts go into the top cover is slotted. Gently loosen these 4 bolts only enough so you can tap back with a hammer. With engine running and lift handle against top stop, gently tap the quadrant assembly to the rear until lift arm are at the very top end of their travel. What this does is adjust the arm going down to the pump control valve. Cheap fix.....Kelly.

Before adjusting anything I would pull the right side inspection cover and look for obvious problems. This sounds more like dirt in the valves. Check out the hydraulic trouble shooting guides at the link here.
