Bob, I'll put the ceramic resistor that came with the 12 volt conversion on today, but before I do I need to know the metal bracket that goes around it so you can screw it to the tractor somewhere seems to have a little bend in it on the back side where the spring of the resistor can be seen and it looks like it is touching it which would make it ground out when attached to the dash plate or what ever part of the tractor I mount it to wouldn' it..... ...? Its not supposed to be like that is it? Should I take it off the ceramic resistor and smash it flat first and then put it back on?

To describe more clearly what I'm talking about. The back side of the bracket that goes on the side of the ceramic resistor where the spring of the resistor can be seen has a bump in it so I guess to hold it in the slot where the spring is for security but it also seems to touch the spring. Won't that cause it to ground out? Hope you get this message this morning so I can fix my tractor today. Thanx Bob in advance

Ron..... ...good eyeball. That resistor element should NOT touch ennythang. Its just wire, straighten it out as you see fit. It should smoke when you first fire it up, thats normal..... ....Dell

which side of the OEM ballist should I mount it because the pertronix likes the full wallop. The specs call for it to be mounted between the key and the original OEM ballist but maybe I should mount it on the other side so it doesn't effect anything but just the coil? Also I don't know where to mount it. I don't want a screw coming backwards through my dash plate..... ....
the 12 volt conversion instructions say to run the new resistor between the key and the OEM ballist..... ..If the pertronix can take the full wallop should I connect it on the other side of the OEM ..... between the OEM and the Coil? or should I connect it between the key and the original OEM ballist? and please read my other post to Bob I sent seperately
Ron, Thats pasted from your other Post. I down loaded the Instructions from the Pertronix web site but they don't have a front-mount coil except the round (Auto) type. If they provided you a coil "Square" its most likely an OEM original that requires both Ballast Resistors.

1.) It does not matter where you mount the added Ballast Resistor, "for the coil", as long as its somewhere between the ignition Switch & the top of the Coil. You could mount it near the coil.

2.) The hot wire from/to the "12V" Pertronix Modual MUST be connected to the 12V switched side of the ignition Switch. That is a point "before" any Ballast Resistance that feeds the coil.

3.) Make sure the device they supplied you is indeed a Ballast Type. Your description suggest it is.., but the Round metal Can type is NOT a Ballast and may cause your OEM original Ballast to Fail. BTW: IMHO Pertronix seem to Know what they are doing. You just have to ask the right questions and they have a 800 number.

Awe jeeze Ron..... ...it don't matter electrically where you mount yer 12-6 volt converting resistor. Thats the joy of being yer own shadetree mechanic, use yer imadgination. I don't have a "favorite" mounting position for the 12-6 volt convering resistor. But remember, it GITTS HOTT (burnie-burnie) and MELTS PLASTIC wiring insulation. So secure it well..... ..respectfully, Dell

you didn't say whether or not it matters if I connect in line between the key and the original OEM ballist or can I hook it up between the original OEM ballist and the coil? the other side.
