Well I put the ballist resistor inline to the coil between it and the original OEM resistor. Tractor runs but after it warms up, it sputters but doesn't stall or didn't before I shut it down. Is the coil fried or is it now the ignition switch or spark plugs? remember this has the pertronix unit and not the points so that shouldn't be the problem.

Just wondering...when you installed the electronic ignition, did you use a 12v coil ?? If you did, you can eliminate the 'infamous' resistor jobby. my $.07 (inflation & exchange)

As Old says, you can TRY jumpering past the ignition switch, but my GUESS is the coil has been overheated once to often from running without resistor, and partially shorts out when it warms up. You could rig up a spark tester, and check the spark when it's cold, vs. when it starts to sputter, to verify the spark gets weak as the coil heats up.

If the spark remains good, there COULD be a restriction in the fuel system, so the fuel flow is not enough to keep the carburetor full.

Might be the switch but thats easy to check just make a jumper and wire around the switch. But most likely its the coil. You didn't say how long it ran, most of the time a switch will show up in 5-15 minutes and a coil at around an hour.
