So you didn't reply to whether or not I could have fried the coil before I put in the ceramic resistor..... ...

How do I get to the flat screen filter of the ones you gave me the link for..... the others are obvious..... .....

The coil certainly could have been permanently damaged. Kinda hard to tell for sure from here, but if I had the coil, I could bench test it with my SUN coil tester, and give you a pretty good idea of it's condition!

The large flat screen is inside the shutoff valve assembly, at the top of the glass sediment bowl. Remove the glass bowl for access to it!

the bowl on the fuel filter in the picture? I don't have that kind of fuel filter..... .so I guess I just need to check the elbow one and see what happens when I open the carb drain plug.

Is sputtering consistant with a fried coil?

Ron..... ....lottta sputtering is consistant with weak sparkies which is semi-consistant with BAD coil, and you are a self-reported "COIL ABUSER". I still think you have an ignition switch problem. $10 (cheap)..... .Dell

Ron..... ..ever wonder why I call the OEM ignition switch a weak sister? One summer, I replaced the ignition switch 3-times (and I know how to do it right) The 3rd time, I bought a 25-amp waterproof marine grade toggle switch and haven't had problems since. Keys, eh? who needs 'em?

You just haffta make yer own short wires to connect to the terminal board from the non-stock ignition switch. (which can be a problem to the electrically challenged) Of course, you can also use enny replacement ignition keyswitch yer local autoparts store is selling. (which can be a problem to the mechanically challenge because it don't fitt the key bracket hole) Iff'n you can read the instructions on how to wire it, it will usually have criptically labled terminals like BAT, IGN, ACC, ST. Are you man enuff to handle that?..... ..respectfully, Dell

Before driving ($$), and purchasing a new switch ($), simply connect a jumper wire across the terminals on the switch and see if it runs better. Then, you'll know!
