Spent a wonderful 12 hrs. this weekend bush hoggin. 3 different times over a 2 day period, after raising the lift to top position, the lift arms would not go down when I lowered the cutter until the tractor went over a "bump". Then the implement would drop down until reaching the limiter chain stop. It was upper 80's and humid. Does this indicate an upcoming repair job? Yesterday when I parked the tractor, the lift worked fine---let me know what you think? Thanks--Tim

My guess would have been sticky exhaust valve.. the bump forcably free'd it up. May be time for a flush of the rear end oil..

When is the last time you removed the inspection plates & cleaned the sludge out of the pump base? That & a fluid change might be all you need, because it sounds like the exhaust valve is sticking.

I believe the pump was serviced when the tractor engine was rebuilt less than 15 hours ago. However, I did discover that when the hydraulic oil was replaced at that time they used the "universal tractor hydraulic fluid" instead of the GL 1 which I have ordered from my local NAPA store. The fluid is clear, but does seem pretty thin---any fix recommendations or should I first replace the hydro fluid with the GL1 and see how it works---Tim

Pull the inspection plate w/ the dipstick & reach into the pump base. If its got sludge in it, you need to clean it out before you add new fluid.
