1949 Ford 8N Front Mount Distibutor.

1. To the right of the throttle, the air intake coveris not the small louvered metal screen like I have seen on others. It looks almost like a fog horn with a possibility of attaching something to the bottom of it to strain the air(?) or to feed something into the intake. Unsure what this is? Does anyone have any ideas? Also it is missng whatever would clamp to the bottom of it it. Any thoughts on what i should do with it? Anyone with pictures of how what would clamp to the bottom of it?
2. Underneath the tractor seat is the lift control switch(?). This is for setting a limiting height of my bush hog or other implement correct? I have sway bars and an adjustable top bar that also limits the level the front of the bush hog and the side to side motion. How do you operate or set this to the height you want? I run a 1960 something bush hog that is very heavy and it is tough to get it to hold it to a certian height.
3. The front of my tractor did not come with a fender(?). The heavy duty metal frame below the radiator. I assume it is to protect the radiatro from damage from trees and such forth. Where and how much could I get the correct replacement for my year tractor? I have see 8n, 9n, and 2ns with different types. What is the correct one for my year and model? Does it really matter?

Still runnnig top of the line after the cluthc and carb rebuild.

Trying to figure out soem of this other stuff now.

Thanks for all yalls help!

Goatsie..... ...you write..... ."1. To the right of the throttle, the air intake coveris not the small louvered metal screen like I have seen on others. Shamelessly stolen from John Smith's site. third party image

Heres a John Smith picture of a real front bumper. Since it was a dealer installed option, there are several versions currently available $50-150. I wouldn't bustta gutt trying to find a "correct" bumper. third party image
As fer your inability to hold yer brushhog mower height, gitt some limiter chains to take the mower weight. Chains collapse when you lift to clear obsticals. Simple, eh? third party image
And NO, that little handle under yer right knee ain't a "flush" handle. Down/horizontal for plowing, UP/vertical for brushhoggin'..... ....respectfully Dell

All 3 of the questions are easy ones.
1) You have either the Cyclone or Harco pre-cleaner, if old and original it's the Cyclone, sounds like it is lacking the bail and jar. You can buy these parts from 8N parts dealers. Keeps most of the dirt from entering the A/C and is much easier to clean.
2) You are refering to the position control switch, up is position control, down is draft control for plowing. In position control the lift height stays as the the touch control lever is set. If the position control is in good order you will not need the height chains on the hog.
3) The front bumper, originally an accessory part. Originals are in high demand, re-pops can be bought from N parts houses and a good working non- original version can be had at any supply house like TSC.
