Well guys, it is now official. According to my local cigarette vendor, effective MONDAY: A photo "ID" must be presented when purchasing any tobacco products in the STATE OF PA for ALL purchases, regardless of age.

Well, says I "what will accept for "proof"?
Driver's licenses only., says she.

OK, said I. Last purchase here. I will go to Maryland and pick-up my Chivas Regal and my allowed 1 pack of smokes (you can only bring into the STATE one pack of cigarettes, and one bottle of booze". Any more will cost you your CAR. Trouble is, I will have to go each day. The booze and smokes are my "prescribed medication".

They were doing this photo ID stuff in Florida for the last few years, now. They scan your drivers license thru some sorta computer. Interesting, though, how when you purchase your next airline ticket, they will have your picture already on file in INDIA.

Have a great week-end. 5:00 somewheres.

Hope I wrote someth'n of merit.

John,PA

So if one doesn't drive, one cannot smoke? Very strange laws you have there!

Does this mean that anyone whose license is suspended cannot smoke for the duration?

Or someone who never learned to drive?

Or a blind person?

Or old people who can't drive anymore?

Why not just make selling smokes illegal and be done with it?

It used to be that 3 forms of positive identification served the US and local governments.

Driver's License.
BIRTH CERTIFICATE. (official)
CERTIFICATE of Baptsmal (sp)

Each certificate proved : Picture, footprint, and "in good faith".

When abroad, just present your "VOTER REGRISTRATION" card at any American Counsulate.
Good enough if you loose your PASSPORT.

About smoking..... personal choice. Sorta like childbirth. Have a good week-end. John.

I had to take a "crash-course" one time when I was running for election as PROTHONATARY. Trouble is, after gett'n learn'ed up, I lost the election. NOW WHAT?

It wasn't very long ago that we Canadians had no form of photo ID, which caused us immense grief when trying to enter the US. I finally got a passport because of it. At that time our drivers licences didn't have pictures. Still, up here, if you don't drive and don't own a gun (our gun possession and aquisition licences have pictures too), aren't a treaty indian or metis or a member of the armed forces or police and aren't an employee that gets a security pass, you won't have a photo ID. Some of us have a wallet full of photo ID's, some have none. My mother, for example, never learned to drive, never served in the armed forces, never needed a passport, never worked, never owned a gun, and was white. She's never had any form of photo ID in her life. I'm surprised there isn't some form of internationally recognized ID system other than passports, issued to all citizens of every country in the world as they reach legal age for free. It burns me to have to pay $60 every 5 years just to be able to cross the border.

I saw a young gentleman standing behind me at the cigarette counter. He looked 15 or so. He had more "id" tags on his neck chain than even the President of the US of A wears.

I, laughingly said to him, "are those the new tags that are being issued to all "NEW BIRTHS".?

So, while I am waiting for a DELTA flight at an international airport, I just hang my driver's license on my neck chain and look just like everyone else. Seems to work, so far. No waiting in lines at "securityA".

Thanks for your interest in my POST. I have just been sitting here at my laptop following a USAIRWAYS flight from DENVER, CO. My granddaughter just arrived at BALTIMORE "Friendship" Airport, Balt.MD. I forget what the airport is called now.

Chat wit you all later. Granddad stuff, now. It always makes me nervous when I ain't doin' the fly'N.

Have a great week, SIR. I must return to my CELL.

Found some "OLD" keys. Better know as "SKELETON-TYPE".

Well, I am still on community service, though.
Must be back in on Monday 5:00 AM sharp.

John,PA

PS: Local judge and I are still in the lawn mower business.
