Can I use Lubegard Gear Oil additive (www.lubegard.com) in my 8N's transmission?

Any reason why you need it?

Most people run either 90w mineral oil, or M2C134d UTF oil from the CNH dealer / a generic brand.

( I doubt a small amount of viscosity enhancer will negatively effect your N... it has 5 gallons of hydro fluid. For what it's worth, my 2n had a drip from the pto seal. Before I went to a show I dropped in a pint of lucas tranny conditioner... drip went away after about 15 minutes of running, and has never come back in 3 years... that said.. I feel that -most- mechanic in a bottle stuff.. does very little...

Sure agree with you on your "mechanic in a bottle" opinion, especially with the much looser tolerances of these old N's. Funny thing you mention Lucas tranny sealer in the same post. About 10 years ago Lucas was a primary sponser of my sons race team, sooo, we had a lot of their products. I had a leaky power steering on my 960 and the power steering conditioner stopped it to this day. Did the leaky tranny thing too and it worked. Fuel additive kept the carbs clean too. Long time ago and I have not used any of those products since but I guess there some that are somewhat benificial! Still I'm not advocating them. Any rain your way? we had 1-1/2" in Feb, our only rain this year!

i know what you mean about liquid mechanic. Other than a little MMO in the gas or oil, or to soak a cylinder.. that's about all I use. I was taking the 2n to a show.. well.. the show i saw you guys at as a matter of fact. and the day or so before the show, the pto seal got weepy.. the lucas sealed it up.. never has leaked again... go figure.

Not much rain to speak of... my pasture looks like a thin brown carpet..

I do appreciate all your replies. I use Lucas in my old Chevy truck stick transmission and love it. I also use MMO in all my old vehicles. I have done a lot of research on the Lubegard products and use their automatic transmission additive. A trusted friend of mine (also a transmission rebuilder by trade) whose race car has a transmission temp gauge says using the Lubegard drops his trans temp 25 degrees. Another friend added the Lubegard gear oil version in his Chevy truck 4 speed stick and it too runs exceptionally cool (I witnessed it pulling a trailer out of town).
