To all of you who responded to my question about my battey, starter, and especially my battery charger, last week (esp. TimK and Claus) - it turns out that the bendix was "just plain stuck" and "locked up" (their words, the Ford shop guys, this is probably technical language I can't be expected to understand) so that when I tried to start the tractor, it was drawing some huge amount of current. That's what must have cooked my charger. Why it didn't shut itself off I don't know. It seems like it should have had some current protection gizmo. Anyhow, $650 (starter, solenoid, bendix, points, plugs, condensor, distributor, pick up and delivery, labor, and a new charger) later, she starts and runs pretty good. Claus, you were right, they charged me pretty good (about $375, the rest was stuff I bought and installed myself, like the new starter and solenoid that I apparently didn't need). But, I just don't know enough about this stuff, and don't really have the time. I have this really fast Formula (boat) to wax up. But that's a different discussion page! Thanks again. You guys are fun to read!Bang!
