Take a close look at the drive and make sure the small retarder pin is present. The purpose of the pin and spring is to keep the gear from drifting when the engine is running. The tractor drive is different from the car drives and may use a coil spring to prevent drifting.Cant remember but parts are often left out.just checked parts book.page 110 shows drive parts. You should have 9 parts in the drive

Reijo..... ..kindda hard to say 'cuz there are 3-bendix's for N-Tractor Starter motors. The OEM bendix that came from the factory and is NO LONGER MADE or SOLD.

Then there is the replacement bendix that has a little piece of toilet paper printed in 6-languages ('cept 'murricum) that tells you that you MUST DRILL a new keeper hole about 1/2" closer to the windings. But who reads instructions, eh?

Then there is the new and improved "clutch" style starter drive.

The only sure advice I can give you is ALL starter drives must be SQUEEKIE CLEAN.

I also recommend wire-brushing the gap between the starter endplate and the tranny hole before you bolt it together with the 8" bolts for a sure and BETTER GROUND. Remember the 6-volt MANTRA: "keep'em clean, brite'n'tite"..... .....Dell
