Is there a way to do that without a photo program. Just using Windows. I have a high resoultion photo that needs a little "slimming". Thanks.

If you are running Windows XP there is a Microsoft add on called Power Toys that gives enhancements to XP and a resizer is one of them. You simply right click on a photo file and the 4th option down is resize. You have 4 options as to how much you want to reduce the picture. It keeps the original and creates a new one in the same folder with a size added to the original name.

You can do it in Paint.
Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Paint

There is a free program that will do wonders with pictures.
IrfanView. http://www.irfanview.com
I use to change size, format, or DPI.
It will do a lot of other stuff too.
It is a very powerful program. And free.
Just open the picture in the program.
Click Image>>Resize/Resample and go from there.
Real easy to do. This program is a must have.

Here's my next question in reply to Pooh Bear, 06-11-2006 08:45:25
I'm trying to post a photo on a VW board and it allows only 256kb, whatever that is. My photo says it is 426 kb. It is also 1200 by 1600. I looked at it in Paint and it will let me reducethe 1200x1600 but not the 426. Help! I don't know what any of that is. If I can't get it done I'll have to post it here. I guess I could park the car next to my N though.

Convert the picture to jpg format in reply to hvw, 06-11-2006 09:20:05
I suspect the picture size is so large because it is a .bmp image.
Convert it to a .jpg and this will reduce the size.

Open the picture in IrfanView
then click File>>Save As
and then in the lower left corner change it to .jpg
You can also lower the save quality and make the file size smaller.

If you reduce the 1200x1600 it will automatically reduce the 426kb. That is the 1200x1600 is the "physical" size of the picture. 426kb is the "computer, or file size" of the picture. If you reduce the "physical" size, it will automatically reduce the "computer, or file size". As some one suggested download Irfanview and give it a try . It is fairly easy to figure out, and it is freeware for personal use.
