You can use Hi-Temp silicone type gasket sealer on the gaskets, AND as above/below you can use 2-part high temp. epoxy to fill in any voids in the block. (contrary to popular belief, J-B Weld will also work---I have used it with success) HPH

Another area to watch is around the rear exhaust port. If a leak starts in this area it can actually burn away the iron around the port of the block and the manifold if not repaired in a timely manner. I've repaired quite a few blocks with this affliction by using a "steel epoxy" around the port and then working it back down flat.

I always use a copper gasket spray on the manifold gaskets on these engines as well.

The most common mistake is to forget that the clamp has a top & bottom; the BIG side goes down. Next, make sure the flange on the exhaust pipe is not cracked or bent. If you install it correctly, that should take care of it. Use Never-Sieze on the bolts on the clamp. I've got one N that just would not stop leaking, so I went to the NAPA & got a piece of exhaust pipe the exact size of the ID of the tractor exhaust pipe. I cut it to six inches & pushed it up into the manifold about 2-3 inches. Then, I took a punch & put a dimple in the exhaust pipe to keep this 'sleeve' from falling down into the pipe. This works fine. Others use tinfoil, beer cans, etc..... .which work, but sort of take away from a restored tractor. The sleeve is invisible.
