Does anybody have an idea why my oil pressure on my Ford 8N would suddenly go from 75 psi to 10 psi? I can't see any obvious external reasons for this to happen.

Maybe it was doped up with STP or heavy oil. 10W-40 is base 10 weight oil. Try straight 30 or even 40 weight if history of engine is unknown. Save drained oil if it is new. Nothing wasted.

Hmmm.... Way too high to a worrisome low overnight. I'd suspect either a braindead gauge or a relief valve originally stuck close that's now stuck open. Both easy and cheap to check.

75psi is just way too high... NAA run in the 50 psi range..

I think I'd get another oil pressure gauge and check it.. might just be a flaky gauge.

While 10 psi is an accaptable working pressure ( my 2n has 10-12 at hot idle ).. I always like to investigate drastic oil pressure changes... they usually involve money... hopefully the only money you will spend is 9$ for a sunpro gauge.. etc.

75 sounds a little high.

Mine starts out like 50psi, but as it warms up it settles at about 26psi after a couple hours mowing.

Even 10 psi can be OK for these things. What oil you using ??

Good ideas, I am using 10W-40 oil. I tried another gage same results. I don't know why it was 75 psi thats just what it was when I bought the tractor. Do I have control over what the oil pressure can be? As it warmed up it would drop to about 50 or 60 psi.

As you will see from many a response, it could be many things,
First I would see if my oil pump pick up line fell off, second I would check out if my oil relief valve spring broke. there are a few to start with Gregg
