manifold on Jubilee

I removed the manifold today from my Jubilee and saw a break in the manifold that goes completly around between the number 2 and 4, (two closest to the driver) cylinders. I assume it would be best to replace it rather than brazing or welding it, since it has a pretty good sized gap( must be an old break )and I doubt that when tightening it down it will be flush and may crack again. Can I reuse the gaskets? I might just as well replace the muffler and the exhaust pipe as well. I presume one of the problems was the closest nut to the last cylinder was missing and the others were not real tight. Thanks in advance, oslo

I think I have the Cold manifold. The intake and exhaust runners are separated by ribs. But I wonder if it's a problem in Texas? It's always so freakin' hot here, I doubt the intake needs the heat of the exhaust side to improve vaporization. But Ford recalled them, so it was obviously a pretty serious problem. I wonder if it was just cold weather performance? I don't mind upgrading to a better manifold if it'll help, but keeping the intake separated from the exhaust will improve efficiency, as long as the fuel is getting vaporized.

Anyone have photos of the two manifolds? Know more about the issues with the old one?

oslo, its possible you have the original Cold Manifold. Ford recalled all these, but I've seen a few that were not replaced. The cold manifold doesn't have much meat between the intake and exhaust but has vertical ribs. The reason I'm bringing this to your attention, performance was greatly improved with the later style manifold. Yet another reason to replace.....Kelly.

I'm going to try welding the manifold on my 52-8N. The No.1 exhaust port is cracked loose at the mounting flange and looks like its moved about an eighth of an inch away from the head. No way it will ever seal that way. I got nothing to lose but a little time and might save a few bucks. There appear to be several different new manifolds available but with my luck Id end up buying a made in China one that does not fit.

There are normal cracks in the mounting area that goes through the inside two bolts. This is not the area you are talking about is it?

Dan, no this is the thiner part of the manifold between the two ports. It is definately man caused not man made. Sorry, for not being clear. oslo

Replace everything. You will be far better off and spend much less time.

You might be able to reuse the gaskets but for the small change cost, I'd use new ones. If you decide to reuse them high temp silicone sealer will go a long ways to help them keep from blowing out right away. If you can find a replacement manifold reasonable I'd put it on instead of welding/brazing the old one. Although I have one on my Jub that broke the same as yours and was welded successfully some time before I got it.
Good Luck, Lee
