My 9N starts and runs ok for about 30 min. Then he starts misfiring and loose all power (barely running, if you try to start the PTO with mower again it dies). If you wait 20-30 seconds he will "catch his breath" again. This problem increases so that after an hour, he stops completely. If you let him sit for 1/2 hr he can be started and runs for a while longer. Any ideas on what causes this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Coil- when it gets hot it loses its capacitance. Cools off, it can again go a while .
2. Fuel supply-check filters from tank to carb. Check to make sure the tank vent isn't clogged by loosening the gas cap.

3) Ignition switch [cruddy contacts heat up and open] jump around it

4) Any incomplete blockage in fuel system--open drain in float bowl and check for full float bowl

those are the most likely hot shut down suspects. If they all check good post again and somebody will ad to the list

Your mileage may vary

You have to decide whether your problem is fuel, or ignition. Next time it stops and refuses to start, pull a plug wire, stick a screwdrive in the end, and hold the screwdriver close to the block. Have someone else turn the engine over and see if you get a spark. That will tell you if it's an ignition problem. My $.02
