Brand new 6.5 briggs and stratton mower is clearly not running at its full potential. My 4 HP runs stonger with more power. No more primer bulbs either. Its even much quieter. I can't stand it! Its disheartening to know this engine is capable of better performance and those goverment bureacrats who have never cut an inch of grass implement restraints to make an engine run less efficient. Someone here must have already figured out how to disable the EPA controls, get this puppy to roar and make some noise? How do I get that throttle wide open and give this thing some life? Do I drill out a jet or something?

Dont do it.Higher blade speeds throw rocks .One fellow struck a stump, the blade broke and took his foot off at the ankle. Many cheapo blades are made of poor steel.Took my blade off for sharpening. The hub just dropped off, poor fit made in china.Blade made in France.2 year old SEARS mower. They need 6.5 hp to cut grass at lower speeds and use more gas.Keep kids AWAY from mowers.A good friends grand son lost a leg when his dad backed over him with a rider mower.Dont give little kids rides when cutting grass or tilling the garden.I see this often and am tempted to stop, but dont want any assault charges.

I don't often buy anything new but I did just buy a new mower this year. It's pretty much a $99 3 1/2HP 22" but they are about $140 now with the blade brake and adjustable wheels.

I must have helped them clear out some old stock because it has a primer bulb and seems to run at full RPM and cut OK.

I'd think they did something to the governer that's limiting the RPM and I bet a good mower shop knows how to get around it!

I can't agree with you more about these new laws!! I just figured out that I can't buy a $5 5 gallon gas can in PA because we have adopted the CARB requirements for fuel cans??? Now, a 5 gallon can is about $20 and it vents through the fill tube so filling a garden tractor is a five minute event.

I'm planning my trip to Ohio now to bring back a truck load of normal 1,2,&5 gallon gas cans!!

I bought one of those gas cans you're talking about. I never could figure out how to work the damn thing so I threw it away.

On the lawnmower engine though. My small engines that run at a constant speed, that is to say no throttle up or down, seem to last much longer than the others. And they're plenty powerful enough. At least that's been my experience. I agree it would be nice to be able to speed them up though.
