What is the procedure to clean the air filter.

I imagine I take the cup off the bottom,
dispose of the oil and clean the cup,
pull the filter element out and clean it.
Then refill the cup with fresh oil and
put it all back together.

What should I use to clean the filter element.

Thanks.

Solvent of your choice... diesel.. kero.. Mineral spirits.. saop and water.. degreaser.. etc.

Some fine it just as easy to take the whole canister off.. imerse or fill with cleaner.. slosh around, and then rinse.. etc.. sometimes easier than getting the filter media back captive..

Oh my, take the whole thing off and clean it that way?
This job just got way more time consuming.

I have never looked inside the air filter.
I was under the impression it was just some sort of
wire mesh like steel wool in there. Just pull it
out, clean it, oil it, then stick it back in.
You make it sound more difficult than that.

Without a doubt, it is easier to unbolt the air cleaner and remove it, vs trying to disassemble it from the bottom.

All you remove is the air cleaner hose, and then 2 bolts.. and the air cleaner is free. Just finagle it's air horn away from the pickup on the side of the hood.

Unless you are gumby.. you would have to remove it to disassemble the inards anyway... So actually washing it whole is 'faster' etc.
Fill er up.. slosh around drain thru paint filter to catch the chunks.. then do er' again.

let drip dry.. dribble some oil on the media with the cannister upside down.. reinstall.. add oil to the cup and you are good to go.. perhaps 20 minutes?

I drove the tractor down to a shady spot today
and worked on cleaning the air filter.
The whole canister came off no problem.
Gosh, it sure was a mess inside. Hardly any oil.
The oil cup was full of mostly oily gunk.
Had to scrape it all out then clean it.
The mesh was almost stopped up. Guess that is why
yesterday it was running like the choke was on.
Took the oil cup and cleaned it real good with
soap and water. Put the canister in a 5 gallon bucket
of soapy water and soaked it a while. Poured a bunch
of water thru it. Filled it up and shook it.
Gave it an all around good cleaning.
Then I set it in the sun to dry for a while.
Put it back on the tractor. Went on just fine.
I forgot to re-oil the mesh stuff inside.
Filled the cup up with fresh oil and put it back on.
Started it back up and it runs a whole lot better now.

Thanks for the advice to remove the whole canister.
I probably never would have gotten it clean the other way.

Well, that don't sound too bad.
Mite give that a go this morning or afternoon.
Ain't doing nothing in the middle of these hot days.

Why would a farmer keep money hidden up there.
Putting it in Mason jars and burying it in the
back yard is so much more conveniant.

Used to know a guy that kept his money in a sock.
Carried it around with him in his pocket.

I've heard a lot of old farmers hid their money up inside of the air cleaner.
It aint a hard job to take it off. You might try it just to see.
