Can you troubleshoot this hitch for me ?

A friend of mine just picked up a little 9N and has done a bit of work on it. Runs very nice and he's happy with it, everything works. My question relates to the operation of the 3-point hitch. It works well, has enough lifting power BUT if I stand on the hitch lower arms when he lifts them, I can feel sort of a jerking or surging feel as the arms raise. It's not a nice, smooth and even feel like I think it should be. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Like Dell says.. it's a 60 year old scotch yoke pump moving 90wt oil.. .. it thumps a bit. if you load it up hard.. it probably knocks like an engine gettin' ready to throw a rod.. but you know what.. it will probably run fine like that for 10-20 more years..

According to a post a day or 2 ago, something w/the pump. Maybe caused by crud, maybe worse. I can not comment further, no actual experience w/the kinda problem.

Mike..... ...they all do that after 60yrs of wear. New hydraulic pump $500 (not cheap) Its not sumptin thats gonnna break. General rule is: iff'n it lifts whattcha need lifted, yer good to go.

Remember, hydraulic pump is operated by the tranny PTO, un-shift the PTO lever, guess what? NO HYDRAULICS, no liftee.

Iff'n ya just gottta be doing sumptin, remove yer 6" round dipstick plate and watch fer squirts while yer lifting sumptin HEAVY.

As a general rule, yer 3-point hydraulic's can lift over 750# before the frontwheels start flappin' in the breeze and ya gotts "braggin' rights" iff'n it'll stay lifted mor'n 30mins. (brand-new 3-point hydraulics will lift about 1200#, iff'n ya chain yer front-axle to the ground, itza short wheelbase thing and will hold-up overnite)..... ..Dell
