My father in law just gave me a 47 8n, & I want to give it a tune up. It has the front mount distributer etc. It appears as though I have to remove the hood & radiator to do this. Is this the case?

What old said and you'll be amazed at how simple it is to work on. Just remove the coil from the top of the distributor by flipping the bail down and set the coil up out of your way. Pop the two clips off of the cap and either replace it or set it out of your way. Firing order 1243 counterclockwise if you need that. Remove the rotor so it's out of your way. Remove the two bolts holding the distributor to the block and take it to your work bench or the kitchen table for that matter to work on. Gap the points carefully to .015" after you replace them and the condenser and reverse the steps to re-install it. You may need to turn the shaft where the rotor goes to get the tangs on the back of the distributor lined up so it drops in flush against the block. You may get other advice but I've never bothered with the timing on a front mount. If I get the points set to .015 they've always run just fine.....all other things being in working order of course.

Nope the distubutor will unbolt with 2 bolts and it will only go back on one way unless you forse it. First thing you should do is get an I-T FO-4 manual and it will be a big help to you.
