Lift hitch and missing arms?

In some of the 8n pictures there are two sets of small swing arms from the top point of the three point hitch and some have them connected with a draw bar.

However, there are also the two large arms for the three point hitch.

I do not have these two small arms or the top hitch three position connector (hope I described that right).

What are the purpose of the two small swing arms and are they really needed?

I currently connect my three point htich to the two large swing arms underneath and the single connector at the top.

How were those small swing arms and draw bar used for?

What about the multi posiiton top hitch point connector?

Goatsie..... .....the little 2-piece jingle-jangle bars are an adjustable height, anti-lift scheme for the 11-hole drawbar; used mostly when backing-up yer haywagon. Remember, yer empty unloaded hydraulic 3-point lift is hand-liftable (you doubt? try it) and gravity down.

The 11-hole drawbar was used mostly for pulling old horse-drawn tillage and "balancing the draft" so you didn't haffta be constantly pullin' on yer steering wheel to keep goin' innnna straight line.

Me? I use the 8N's under-the-diffy mount (4-bolts) adjustable length swinging drawbar which I mount a regular trailer ball so the crank is up and cracks yer kneecap.

9N/2N's don't have the under diffy mount and haffta make do with other schemes like the jingle-jangle bars..... .....Dell

I have two sway bars I use on implements which connect underneath.

I have the two large left and right arms for the three point hitch.

Howevevr, I do not have the smaller set of sway arms or draw bar connection which is pistured in a lot of 8n pictures showing the full assmepbly.

I also do not have the three position moutning bracket at the top hitch. I have a dual connector that this rocker connector shoudl go to.

I have away to connect implements, I am just wondering what the smaller sway arms are for?

SC...when I was a kid I don't remember my Grandad ever using the lift on the 8N. He always had the stay straps & the 11-hole drawbar mounted on it to pull his single axle hay wagon. Of course, the stays kept the linkage from flying up every time you stepped up on the tail of the wagon.

I know he used the 8N for bush hogging & plowing, but I was never around to see it. Twenty five years later I dragged it up to the shop to start restoring & the stays & drawbar were still mounted on the 3-point.

Since I finished the restore & started using the 8N again, I've never had cause to install the stays or the 11-hole drawbar.

I have only used my drawbar for pulling my trailor around when needed. I put the staystraps on primarily to keep the lift arms from coming up on me when I back the trailor up. Make sure you dont use your hydraulics when you have the staystraps on or you will have to learn how to straighten them out again. I am sure there are a bunch of different uses for the drawbar and staystraps. Lets see if someone else chimes in.--Tim

SC--I think you are asking about Stay Straps, Lift Arms, Stabilizer Bars and the Top Link Rockers. Go to Tractor Parts section of this website, get to 8N parts and there are pictures of what you are describing. Get back to us and let us know what arms you need feedback on and somebody will give you an answer---Tim
