I'm having difficulty getting the old points out insdie the distributor. I have the RH fender off but still can not dislog the old points. Saw 2 screws to take out and a black center screw head, but it won't come out. Certainly I don't need to take the radiator out, do I? Is that black screw top a cam for adjusting the points distance? The distributoe housing has (2) 1/2 hex bolts holding on the distributor top; can I take that off to bring the unit outside the tractor or is it attached to the distributor rod? Any suggestions?

Remove the wire going to the top of the coil. Remove the coil. Remove the distributor cap. Then, remove the two bolts holding the distributor to the engine. That's all it is to it. No need to remove the hood, radiator, etc. The points are installed on the bench. The distributor has an offset tang on it's base to make it almost impossible to re-install incorrectly.

Hehehehe! Previous owner of my '44 2N never knew that. I mentioned that i had put new points & condenser in it, and he said, "and isn't THAT the most asenine design of all time?". I said it took all of about 15 minutes, and he just looked at me in total disbelief. I guess he never read that section of his old 1958 copy of the FO-4.
