When tractor production slowed down for the war effort, Henry asked his design team & Harry's to begin work on a rowcrop tractor to go up against IH. The idea being to get the attention of all those diehard tricycle farmers who liked the simplicity of the 3-point system, but would never give up the 3-wheel row crop tractor's advantages. Anyway, what the team came up w/ was similar to the sugarcane kit we've all seen on one of Palmer Fossum's N collection. This was all happening in late 1943, so, of course the release madel year was to be 1944, hence "4N". Since this tractor was technically a new design, and still utilized the Ferguson system, Harry wanted to negotiate a new deal for this model. Among other things he wanted to badge it "Ferguson 4N". Long story short, Henry wouldn't hear of it & Harry wouldn't let it go, so the whole thing died a slow death never to see production. Few people know this was the beginning of the end of the "handshake agreement". Now, if you're still w/ me, I have a small piece of shorefront property in west Texas. It's right on the Gulf.....
