Lapping Valves?? Opinions?

I have the head off my 8N and the valves are not burnt as I expected. I have a persistant but intermittent exaust "sputter". I expected a burnt exaust valve. Now I am Marvel Mistry Oil treating all and wondering, what are the opinions about lapping the valves as a minimal correction since I have the head off. I also understand I will have to flush the whole engine to get rid of all the lapping compound.
Thanks,
rasputen

it all depends on how good the guides are.if guides are fine(little or no sideways wiggle),then by all means go for it.if sloppy, don't bother.get head reworked.the seal wouldn't last anyway.just my 1&1/2 cents(taxes you know).

Won't hurt to lap them. After a few quick spins, wipe the lapping compound off and then take a look see at the shinny ring you should have on both the valve and seat. It will tell you alot.
The ring should be near the center of the valve and seat and should be continous. If you see any break in the ring, the the material is worn down and either needs more lapping or you really do need a valve job.

As someone else says. "Your mileage may vary"

Ras,
It could not hurt to lap them. You will have to take the spings loose to do it. I don't know about flushing the whole engine. It only takes a little compound to do the job, wipe it off real good you should not have a problem.

Just my opinion.Hope it helps.
