If you could purchase a TO35 or an 8N for about the same price, which would it be an why? Which one is easier to get parts for and/or work on. I"d like to have an antique tractor and I have about 3ac. to mow and do some light tractor work on.

Richard:

I own and use both. See my reply to your question on the MF board.

I would definitely suggest the TO35. I have had a 2N for about 10 years and bought a TO35 about a year ago. I have a 60" finishing mower for grass cutting, and find that I can do a much nicer job with the TO than with the 2N - the xtra gears (6 vs 3 forward) really makes a difference. The live PTO and hydraulics are a definite plus also. I"m in the process of turning the 2N into a "trailer queen".

I"ve now found a Jubilee. Would you go with a TO35 or a Jubilee? Price for the Jubilee is $2750 and the TO35 is $2800

T0-35 is way more tractor than an NAA. And TO-35 parts are just as available as NAA parts. I'd trade my shiny and freshly rebuilt 9N for a scruffy but running TO-35 in a heartbeat.

I have both . JUBilee and TO 35 both have same cu in motor 134 cu in, same HP same wt same size tires, not all to35s have live pto. Without live pto no live hyd. Ford 8n should be compared to TO20.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe TO-35's were built 1954-1961 and had several different engines and transmissions. Commencing in 1962 they dropped the TO designation and simply became 35's. The later models (1960-) were bigger (3600# vs 2800#) and more powerful than the NAA's. The Perkins engine was a 152 cubic inch diesel. Several different gas versions were also available and they came with a 6 speed transmission. I don't know about the PTO/hydraulics issue. The NAA has live hydraulics without live PTO as does my Kubota and a whole raft of other machines I've used.

I'm no expert on 35's or their history but I've seen a few and the ones I'm familiar with are certainly more machine than an NAA. The octegenarian gentleman who lives 1/2 mile down the road has a late model 35 Deluxe that I keep trying to cajole him into selling but he's adamant his son would have a fit. That particular rusty unit was the basis of my original statement WRT my 9N vs a TO35.

YMMV,

TOH

Richard..... ....NAA or TO-35, TO-35 still more modern tractor. Don't go by price, go by condition. Specially them $250+ ag-bar tires. I'd rather by a good starting rusty tractor than fancy shiny paint hard starter..... ...Dell

Everything else being equal, the TO-35 would be my choice. More horsepower, and live hydraulics and live PTO make it easier to use.

Parts for 8ns are very easy to get. We never had any massey fergusons, but Im guessing it wouldnt be hard to find parts for the Mf 35. I would lean more toward the 35 vs the 8n. A friend of mine had both and he used the 35 a bit more due to its slower speed capability. I think the 35 also had ohvs, and live lift? when he died, I purchased the 8n, masseys are not to common in my area.

If the same price and condition, I'd definitely buy the 8N. More of them out there and readily available parts at reasonable prices. GA Jim

I was around both when they were new. The M-F 35 has features of a one-generation newer tractor, more like an 600 or 800 series. The 35 was the best selling tractor in the world in its day and parts are available world-wide! It would be particularly attractive if you have a good M-F dealers nearby. Even so, if the 8N has been restored to like-new it could make a hard decision. Mike-Iowa
