The 8N I brought back home last week runs with only 52 dollars invested (for now). It will need lots of work but I have time. It is still 6 volt and all the parts are there but I am going to convert it to 12 volt for now just because I have all the parts laying around to convert it with. My question: I am thinking about removing and saving all the original wiring harness for after I do the body work and re install it all afterward. Is there any need to use any of it for a temporary 12 V conversion? I already installed the 12V dist/coil assembly but will rebuild the 6V assembly and reuse it later. Any ideas on this? Oh, and another question, which wire terminal on a delco alternator is the one to use? The I or the R terminal?

Ron, it seems that you can buy a new harness for $15 or thereabouts... it doesn't cover the headlights but not everybody has lights.

Wiring is really pretty basic on these...

Here's how to hook up a Delco 10SI alternator. The terminal labels we are concerned with are "1" and "2". There may be other letters above them, which are a carry-over from an older version of this alternator.

If your alternator does not look like the one in the photo, it may NOT be internally regulated.

An "idiot light" with a #194 bulb can be used in place of the diode.
