I guess I have to take my 52 8N to the shop. It still misses after I've tried everything this board has to offer. It still loses power at half trottle, or under load. I'm about to give up as a barnyard mechanic. I've check Timing, govenor, gas, electrical, lever adjustment, rebuilt carb.
Any last options before I take it to the 8N doctor?

did you try a different coil.have seen the same symptoms caused by a weak coil.ran fine till engine was loaded, then missed like he--.runs good otherwise.under load cylinder pressure rises and a weak coil may not be able to overcome increased resistance at plug gap causing a miss.have seen this on more than one occasion.just my 1&1/2 cents(taxes you know).

Just to give some comfort, none of these N problems are rocket science. I will guarantee that you will find, or stumble upon the problem. Don't take it to an N dealer, it will cost you mucho dinero and you will miss out on the satisfaction of getting to the problem yourself. My $.02

Did you rebuild the governor or just adjust it? As mentioned below, I'd check the advance mechanism. My 52 had two big old grooves worn in the plate and the weight pins were worn, too. The pins would catch in the grooves about 2/3 of the way to full advance.

I have a similar problem with my 47 2N. I replaced the manifold and got a big power boost.

I still have an air leak and think it might be around the throttle shaft.

I had a stumble under load that I finally corrected by tightening the manifold nuts. HTH Steve 8N 169302

Try this; hold eng @ half throttle or where it misses and remove one plug wire @ a time until you isolate which cyl it is then swap the plug and plug wire from a known good cyl.if the miss moves replace the suspect plug and wire. if the miss does not move you probably will have to take it in, if you don't want to dive into the engine!

Have you checked the distributor centrifigal spark advance? If the the little weights are stuck it will not advance the spark at higher rpms. Just have to pull the cap off and the backing plate that holds the points and condensor down. Three screws for p+c and two for the backing plate. You can see if the weights are free moving.

One time after replacing the points, I had dropped a hold down screw and had replaced it from my coffee can. It was too long and interfered withe the weights behind the plate. I replace the screw with shorter and it worked fine.
